Through the Window

Feet trudging, leading the way,

Air frigid, suffocating the day.

Eyes staring ahead, ready to face,

What lies in that hospital bed.

She had been young and glowing,

A long life ahead of her,

Cut short in a blur,

Weakness is now showing.

The second wave, a heinous surprise,

An entire nation’s demise.

I approach the window, there she lies,

Disease deteriorating her insides.

Breath heavy, against the glass,

Fogging up the window,

While, she stares, at the ceiling,

Ventilator suffocating her.

Tears freezing to my face,

I trace a heart into the foggy window,

Before walking away,

Not knowing if I saw her last breath.
